Justin is a recent graduate (2020) of the Health Sciences program at McMaster University. His interest in music therapy was developed while completing undergraduate coursework under Rachael, the MTAcademy’s founder, and he has since worked on two research projects in collaboration with the MTAcademy. In 2019, he completed a review of controlled studies examining the use of music therapy to improve the lives of individuals living within the forensic mental health system. Next, Justin assisted with the MTAcademy’s efforts to investigate the feasibility of holding community music therapy group sessions in an undergraduate setting, writing his honours thesis on the topic in 2020. Moving forward, Justin hopes to quicken the broad adoption of music therapy as an alternative to drug therapies by integrating robust health research methods into music therapy pilot projects.
