MTAcademy Mentee: Tyeesha Alexander

Tyeesha (she/her) is a fourth-year student in the Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Performing Arts program with a specialization in Music at the University of Trinidad and Tobago. Her love for music goes further than just performing. She has a genuine interest in people and a desire to help others empower themselves. Her first encounter with Music Therapy was when she did an Independent Study where she focused on using the Steelpan as a tool for Music therapy to aid in building the confidence of an autistic child as well as observing how music affects his mood. She used Steelpan as a tool for Music Therapy because it is the national instrument and is very accessible. She is honoured to join the mentorship program and to work with the Music Therapy Academy.
