In this workshop participants will learn tools to navigate difficult conversations that may arise in clinical group music therapy settings about issues related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Participants will also learn ideas and ways to address potential conflicts using clinical scenarios as examples.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will learn how to approach and navigate topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in group music therapy settings in the context of mental health.
- Participants will work through examples of clinical scenarios shared by the facilitator and have an opportunity to share your own.
All participants will receive a Continuing Education Certificate (1 hour).
About the Facilitator
Priya Shah, MMT, RP, MTA, is a music therapist and professional discipline lead at
Homewood Health Centre in Guelph, Ontario providing individual and group music therapy sessions to inpatients in mental health and addictions treatment programs. She is passionate about issues related to equity, diversity, and inclusion and is involved in related initiatives at her workplace focused on clinical interactions. Priya received her Masters of Music Therapy from
Wilfrid Laurier University in 2018, and is currently completing a 5-year Gestalt psychotherapy training program. She continues to develop an anti-oppressive approach to music therapy informed by practice and training.
