It can be difficult to identify microaggressions and the use of appropriative language when subtly rooted in implicit bias and systemic colloquialism. What steps can we take to be more aware of the history behind certain terms, phrases, and language? How can we identify the difference between offensive language and respectful dialogue? In this workshop, we will explore these questions and many others in our journey to establish respectful therapy practices.

Learning Objectives
  • Explore and identify the meaning, history, and use/misuse of "microaggressions" and "African American Vernacular English (AAVE)."
  • Engage in critical self-reflection to determine tangible goals and personal action steps relating to respectful therapy practice.
All registrants will receive 1 Continuing Education Certificate (1hr).
