CIMTR awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize

Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) received The Queen’s Anniversary Prize on Thursday 17th February 2022 during a ceremony at St James’s Palace in London. The Prize was presented to Vice Chancellor Professor Roderick Watkins and Professor Helen Odell-Miller (pictured) on behalf of ARU by His Royal Highness Prince Charles and Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, and it was awarded in recognition of ARU’s world-leading music therapy work.

💡 Did you know? The Founder (Rachael Finnerty) and Director of Communications (Bernice Chu) of the MTAcademy are graduates from the ARU Masters in Music Therapy program.

McMaster GradFlix 2021 Prize Winner

Our founder, Rachael Finnerty, was awarded 3rd place in the McMaster GradFlix 2021 Competition.

What is Gradflix? GradFlix is a video competition where graduate students have one minute to share their research story for a chance to win prizes and be featured in McMaster’s GradFlix showcase. Participants create a video, moving slide show, or animation of no longer than 60 seconds in length that describes their research.

MTAcademy in the Muse Magazine

Our Founder, Rachael Finnerty contributed a piece on her PhD research in the Spring 2020 edition, The Muse Magazine.

The Muse is a medical humanities magazine based at McMaster University (Hamilton, Canada). They aim to go beyond the science of health to spotlight the personal stories of those in the healthcare community.

MTAcademy interviewed on the 900 CHML

On May 20, 2018, the MTAcademy's Founder & Director of Education, Rachael Finnerty, as interviewed on 900 CHML's “The Health and Wellness Show”.

In this interview, a variety of music therapy's benefits are discussed. Emphasis was placed on how to maintain and improve health and wellness across the lifespan.

The conversation also includes what training is required to become a music therapist, and how professionals can work collaboratively to reach healthcare goals using music. Music is promoted as an accessible medium that offers POSITIVE experiences, detached from the stigma that often surrounds seeking or receiving mental health help.
